Every once in a while, I’ll take a photo into black and white, and it just feels right.
There’s something about stripping out the color that lets you focus on the expression, the texture, the light. It becomes less about the background and more about the moment.
My background in fine art and pencil drawing probably has a lot to do with it. I’ve always loved working in tones, seeing how far you can push contrast and shape with just light and shadow. Editing black and white photos taps into that same side of my brain.
It’s not something I do often, but when the lighting or the mood fits, it can completely change how an image feels. Sometimes the shot just works better with a little mystery.
Here are a few of my favorite black and white moments - simple, quiet, and a little more on the artsy side.
Let’s make something beautiful in black and white. Whether it’s a soulful studio portrait or a quiet outdoor moment, I’d love to create something timeless together. Reach out if you’re ready to turn your favorite moments into black and white art.
