Coming Together for Our Dog Community After the Fires

Updated: 6 days ago

The dog community is one of the most compassionate and resilient groups I know. When one of us is in need, we come together to support and uplift each other.

Right now, some of our friends need exactly that.

The recent fires in Altadena and the Palisades have deeply impacted lives, including those of our beloved pets and their people. These are individuals who have dedicated themselves to animals through rescue work, fostering, training, or simply being incredible pet parents. Now, they’re facing unimaginable challenges.

This is where we can make a difference.

I’ve put together a list of GoFundMe pages for some amazing people and their pets who could use a little extra help right now. Whether it’s $5, $50, or simply sharing the link, every bit counts.

  1. Nicole, Maggie, Rossi, & Jared– On January 8th, the Eaton Canyon fire devastated Nicole Ellis's home in Altadena, California, leaving her and her family homeless with only their van and dogs. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help them rebuild their lives by replacing essential items, dog equipment, and transportation.

  2. Jen & her family - Jennifer Hsia and her family, along with all of her dogs, lost their Altadena home in the Eaton Fire, leaving them, their toddler, and dogs without essentials.

  1. Nadja, Pika, and her family- Nadja and Nicholas lost their Pacific Palisades home to the Palisades fire, escaping with only their dog, Pika, and a few personal items. This will help them rebuild their lives, covering essentials like temporary housing, clothing, and dog supplies.

  2. Ellen & her family – Ellen and her son Nico, founders of Deity Animal Rescue, lost their home and belongings in the Palisades fire, escaping only with their dogs. This campaign has been set up to help them find a dog-friendly rental and replace their possessions.

  3. Laura & her dog - Dog trainer Laura Nativo just lost her home and nearly everything she owned in this devastating fire. She and her dog Delilah are safe but facing the daunting task of starting over. Funds will help her rebuild, find stability, and create a safe space for her and Delilah to heal.

If you’ve ever experienced the love and joy that comes with being part of this incredible community, now is the time to give back. Let’s rally behind our friends and show them they’re not alone in this.

Thank you for reading, donating, or even just sharing these links. If you know of any other fundraisers or ways to help, feel free to drop them in the comments or reach out to me directly so I can add them here. Every little action adds up to something so much bigger.
